On the Square

Whoosh! (the sound of money departing at high speed and volume)

I ordered the shakes for our 1880’s Gothic Debatable tower today. I’m replacing all the cedar on it. Got some trim work around the edge of the roof to do as well. Oh, and a couple pieces of tin to fabricate.

12 cartons…96 shingles/carton. 3 different patterns (fancy-ing this up just a bit).
I’m pretty sure [...]

The Weekend Off…

Well, with forcast temperatures in the teens, we decided we wouldn’t be getting much work done this weekend.
Painting? Uh, no. Not only do I not want to be outside, but the paint would be somewhat solidified. We may have lost some paint anyway…since some of it was stored in parts of the house that no-doubtably [...]

Padded…

ROAD TRIP!!!
So, I jumped in the left-handed fargle-snorker and trucked on up to Clarksville on Saturday.
The trip itself is kind of a big deal. It’s an old rig, yet brand new to me, so I’d no experience as to its reliability etc. The gas gauge doesn’t work, and I didn’t even know what kind of [...]

Projects

Last minute shopping?

Those of you following along probably realize by now that I need to purchase about 2.3 million dollars worth of stuff from Home Depot for the Old Vic project…
Heh…and THAT’S just for the stuff I need to finish this year!
You also may recall I’m an author.

Want to help me help support the booming home [...]

Projects

Why they fall down *slowly*…

Yet more electrical work. Not much to show…as in “interesting pictures”. Basically I’ve been crawling through attics trailing yellow wire all behind me like some sort of giant mutant spider.
*shudder* On second thought…stike that mental image…I do NOT want to know what orifice that three-stranded copper, PVC sheathed “web” comes out of.
There’s more than a [...]

Mood

Glutton. For. Punishment.

(deep breath)
A project that’s related to the Old Vic project that’s not quite on topic but since it’s a project and I tinker on it and this one will definitely be related to the other one…
There’s a tower ya see. (shrugs) What was I supposed to do?
So, ya’ll (technical Texas term) may know I own [...]

Electrical

*blinks* By the gods! We can see!

The attic over the sunroom and utility room had a very small opening, rudely hacked into the beadboard ceiling. It was so narrow I couldn’t even get my shoulders through it without contortions…much less the rest of my rather rotund self… The hole wasn’t square either and simply had a wood piece that was pulled [...]

Projects

Making a house…a home.

At what point does a house become a home?
For us, and this house, it felt like home before we bought it…but that’s not really it. We still are using a lot of the furniture that came with it. Some of it is still organized the same way.
At what point then, did we feel it was [...]

Projects

Starting to look…actually…like I’m accomplishing something!

Sooo…window trimmed in…siding up…you’ll notice the bottom glass is clean…SO clean in fact, that air hose and extension cord pass right through it! (a situation I’ll possibly correct next weekend).
That’s me out there working…You’ll notice sash weight pockets…

Nailguns rock…

Looking pretty good…

Doorframe around the corner is in too…

I WILL have the french doors mounted next weekend…

Projects

Operation Coverup…

Six boxes arrived scattered amongst other packages in a large truck…about eighteen kilos each, tightly wrapped in plastic to keep the scent contained. We quickly transferred them into the trunk of Crunchbird (Da Altima)…. rest of the story here
